May I begin by offering media and communications practitioners

"Media and Spirituality: A Training Course" (July 2, 1997)

As the title expresses, this is a continuing spirituality course of recollections and retreats that I wrote originally for Communication Foundation for Asia - Media Apostolate (CFA-MA), Manila. The course is applicable to other Catholic mass media centers as well. This was developed under the guidance of Fr. Robert White, S.J., Director, Social Communications, Gregorian University, Rome.

Now, to introduce myself, I am Generoso T. Sabio, MSC...

Birthday and Feastday. I was born on January 29, 1949 in Tubuñgan, Iloilo, Philippines. My feastday falls on July 17, the feast of St. Generoso of Tivoli, Italy.

Music and arts. I learned music in high school through the guidance of Fr. Fritz Grol, MSC and the late Fr. Anthony van den Bremer, MSC; the former taught me how to play the harmonium, and the latter, the brass instruments. I also learned to play the guitar during my scholasticate years. I composed two music pieces, one of which is the "Chevalier School Song" which is still sung at present in Angeles City.

Sports and other interests. Chess, table tennis (ping-pong), and lawn tennis are my sports. I had a short stint as a coach of two chess contestants of Chevalier School in the early 80's for the Angeles City Amateur Athletic Association (ACAAA): Arthur Non and his younger brother. Both became champions and represented the City in the Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA). Among my interests nowadays is webpage construction.

Work. My past work included school apostolate from 1976 until 1987 (as Guidance Counselor from 1976 to 1979, and as Rector from 1979 until 1987), parish work from 1987 until 1989 (as Parish Priest of Sta. Quiteria Parish, Baesa, Caloocan City), novitiate formation from 1989 until 1995 (as Novice Master), and media/communication from 1995 until 1999 (as Pastoral Animator, MED Administrator, and lastly as President). Last November 1999, I arrived in Rome for my new responsibility as one of the 4 Assistants General (also called General Councilors), based at the MSC Generalate at Via Asmara, 11 - 00199, Rome, Italy.

ESP. I do water dowsing with considerable success. I discovered this through a Malaysian Carmelite priest, Fr. John Chin, OCD. I know of only one miss hit, but you may take your chances especially when you desperately need to put up a water well.
