US official confirms
probe on Lacson

The senior national security and foreign policy adviser of a US congressman confirmed Wednesday that the US government was "seriously investigating" the suspected involvement of Sen. Panfilo Lacson in the entry of large amounts of money into the United States.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson reacted to the statement by saying that that the statement only confirmed an investigation but did not say that the investigation had come to any conclusions.

Priest says general connived with Abu

LAMITAN, Basilan--Catholic priest Cirilo Nacorda yesterday accused five officers of the Armed Forces of conniving with Abu Sayyaf hostage-takers, allowing the kidnappers to escape from a hospital compound here on June 2.

Nacorda identified one of the officials as Visayas Command chief Brig. Gen. Romeo Dominguez, the former 1st Tabak Division Commander. Dominguez, in a phone interview, said Nacorda’s allegation was "too much" and that he plans to take legal action.

Malaysian businessmen

KUALA LUMPUR (via PLDT)—-After securing a ceasefire deal with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, President Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday called on businessmen to invest in the East Asean Growth Area (Eaga), a special economic zone that includes Mindanao.

But Malaysian business leaders queried the President closely on the threat posed by the Abu Sayyaf kidnappers.

Estrada files P100M libel
suit vs Corpus, Inquirer

Jailed former President Joseph Estrada yesterday directed one of his lawyers to file a P100-million libel suit against military intelligence chief Col. Victor Corpus and the INQUIRER even as the Ombudsman launched an inquiry into allegations that Estrada and Sen. Panfilo Lacson had laundered millions of ill-gotten dollars in the United States, Canada and Hong Kong.
